Donald J. Lisa has thirty-five years experience as a corporate executive and intellectual property attorney. He is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice in NY, NJ, AZ and IL. Mr. Lisa received his Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957, his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1965, and his MBA degree from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business in 1987.
After graduating eleventh in his class at the Naval Academy, Mr. Lisa served his full commitment of 5 years as a U.S. Naval Officer and all-weather jet fighter pilot, with more than 1200 flight hours and 350 carrier landings (half at night). Mr. Lisa honorably resigned from his Naval Career after earning the rank of Lieutenant, to pursue a career in patent law. After obtaining his law degree from Harvard, he spent ten years with the prestigious New York City patent law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon, becoming a partner after only 3 ˝ years. There, Mr. Lisa worked on numerous large litigation and trial matters. In 1974 Mr. Lisa began his 13 year career at Motorola, where he became an officer of the company while rising through a succession of positions involving patent enforcement, technology transfers, proprietary rights litigation, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and negotiation of related business agreements. Mr. Lisa left Motorola in 1987 and started his own intellectual property law firm, “Law Offices of Donald J. Lisa” (later, for a time, “Lisa & Lisa”, and “Lisa & Associates”) based in Phoenix AZ. At the same time Mr. Lisa started his own mergers and acquisitions consulting business, “Lisa & Company”, through which he continued to work as an affiliations negotiations executive. Both businesses were successfully pursued concurrently for 15 years until 2001. In 2002, Mr. Lisa temporarily retired from the active practice of law. However, in August, 2009, at his son’s request, Mr. Lisa re-activated his Arizona and Illinois state bar licenses and re-entered the practice of law part-time, and Don practices with Steven G. Lisa, Ltd. as an intellectual property licensing and litigation specialist.
In November, 2007, at the age of 72, Mr. Lisa returned to his love of flying and in April 2008 received his Private Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter Certificate, and in August, 2008 Mr. Lisa received his Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter Certificate. He has also nearly completed his training for his Certified Flight Instructor Certificate and his Certified Flight Instrument Instructor Certificate, and has accumulated 178 hours in the R22 and R44 helicopters.
Mr. Lisa currently resides, with his wife, Isabelle, of fifty-three years. They have two children: Richard, age 52, and Steven, age 50 and five grandchildren.
